Say Hello to Heatwave Story Agency

I haven’t been in touch for a while, things have been crazy this side. I knew I had to make a change, but, for the longest time, I wasn’t too sure what that would look like. Slowly but surely it started unfolding, and now that I look back, I can see that it was a natural progression. It was bound to happen sooner or later. I’ve decided to take Heatwave in a new direction. I love photography and won’t stop doing it, but I’m excited to explore storytelling (using photos, video and words) and what it can offer clients. I believe in the transforming power of story, I’ve seen it in action when I published the video I created to raise awareness of cervical cancer prevention. There were women who saw the video and got in touch to tell me that they’d either taken their daughters for an HPV vaccination, or they had a PAP smear themselves. I was astonished to see how using storytelling can drive change in behaviour that just isn’t possible when using statistics and cold, hard facts. I believe in the transforming power of storytelling, and I believe being vulnerable with your truth when sharing it with others can lead to action and lasting change. I’ve seen it with my own eyes, it’s encouraging to know that people can be so impacted by telling an authentic story. This is a link to a more in-depth look at how this change transpired.

What has changed?

Heatwave Photography has transformed into Heatwave Story Agency. Using photos, videos and words, we will help you tell your stories powerfully and authentically.

Two of our featured stories:

Henry's Date:

Imagine, if you will, being on a date with someone who seems a little on edge, though you can’t quite put your finger on it. Although he comes across as a nice guy, funny even, the conversation doesn’t quite flow. At the end of the date, he walks you to your car. Chivalry died somewhere in the 80’s, so you find this gesture admirable. So much so, that you linger at the car, drawing out the conversation, hoping to make the connection that feels just beyond reach. You talk for a while, and he is clearly agitated, becoming more fidgety by the minute. Eventually, he all but shoves you into the driver’s seat while hastily making an exit. You never hear from him again... continue reading.

Entrepreneur Story: Cindy MacGregor, Owner of Nina Belle Spa.

Cindy MacGregor is an accidental entrepreneur with a heart for women. She spoke with me about the path that led her to become the owner of Nina Belle Spa, and how she feels she’s able to make a difference in the lives of those who are overstretched and overburdened...

Going forward, the newsletter and blog's focus will be to share some of the stories we're telling, as well as thoughts and ideas around storytelling and entrepreneurship. Looking forward to growing with you.

Until next time, Marinda
